DVT Airport Partnership Meeting - Notes of Interest

Ed Faron, DVT Airport Manager, conducted another Airport Partnership Meeting on Wednesday this week. Here are a few items of interest to our members:

  • New Air Traffic Manager: The Deer Valley ATC staff announced that Doug Hart has been named as the new Air Traffic Manager. Geno Riley recently retired from that position and a warm DVT welcome goes out to Doug. If you haven't visited the tower in a while, consider doing that as it's a great opportunity to meet the tower staff and to see the airfield and the tower operations from a very different perspective. Contact Kate Neubauer at (623) 581-1492 to schedule that.

  • North Ramp Reconstruction Project: The next phase of reconstruction on the North Ramp is scheduled to begin on the east hangar complex in January 2017 with completion by the end of June. The airport staff is working on a very similar communication plan to alert hangar tenants of the project and to provide details regarding aircraft relocation plans. The diagram below shows the timing for the construction, which will be scheduled in four phases. Stay tuned for more info from the DVT staff as we get closer.

    North Ramp Reconstruction Project Timeline

  • West Perimeter Road Reconstruction: Also scheduled to start in January 2017 is the last phase of reconstruction for the west perimeter road. Similar to the ramp project, the road will be completely removed and the soil treated with lime for stabilization before replacing the asphalt. This project is forecast to take approximately 30 days and we should then have a much nicer, more permanent north/south access route.

  • Runway 7R/25L Construction Project: As a follow-on to the August reconstruction project for the west and east ends of the south runway, the next phase is tentatively planned for June 2017. This phase will be another complete closure of the south runway to allow for asphalt rehabilitation on the entire center section. Although disruptive to our normal flow of traffic, the first phase went very well with most airport stakeholders reporting minimum issues with the construction. More information on this project will be communicated as well as we get closer.

  • Airport Tenants Survey: We sent a reminder via NOTAM earlier this week regarding this survey which seeks inputs on the FAA Policy clarification regarding non-aeronautical use of hangars. As a measure of what to expect and the timing of addressing this policy clarification, airport management indicated that they intend to analyze the survey results as input to help them finalize airport policies regarding this topic. Once the policies are set, they will be updating airport rules, regulations and the development of new storage permits. As with the timeline for the FAA document, they hope to have all of this finalized and put into effect in July 2017.
