FAA Policy on the Non-Aeronautical Use of Airport Hangars

Many of you are likely aware that the FAA recently published a policy update to the Federal Register regarding the use of hangars at federally obligated airports.  The update becomes effective on July 1, 2017 and was issued to clarify several areas of concern regarding how airport facilities, including hangars, can be used at airports that have received federal funds. Some potential policy areas of note to DVPA members include: the requirements regarding active, operational aircraft; the expanded definition for the non-commercial construction of experimental and kit aircraft; and the revised policy regarding the storage of non-aeronautical items in hangars.

DVPA has been invited by City of Phoenix Aviation to participate in the revision of the current Airport Tenants Manual. The manual is definitely in need of updating and DVPA is working to ensure that the new FAA Policy is appropriately incorporated. Below are two links that will provide you with more information about the new policy. As always, we’d appreciate hearing your views and receiving your inputs regarding these anticipated changes.
